On July 4th of 2021, Earthcomb celebrated independence day in style by removing about 200 lbs of litter at Lake Cachuma shoreline. We have now removed more than 1 ton of litter from Cachuma.
Lake Cachuma is the primary source of water for Santa Barbara County. At Earthcomb, we show gratitude
to our beautiful municipal water supply by conducting annual litter removals during dry season when the
lake-bed is the most exposed.
Nestled happily in the Santa Ynez Valley, Lake Cachuma was built in 1953 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
The Bradbury dam was built on the Santa Ynez River in just over a year. Covering an approximate 5 square
miles, the lake has become home to a wide variety of wildlife. Cachuma is a popular destination for residents
and visitors from several nearby cities.
Lake Cachuma is a wonderful place to rent boats, camp, fish, BBQ or play disk golf and horseshoes. Dine
overlooking the water at the lake’s private restaurant HOOK’d. Earthcomb founder Andrew V highly recommends
a HOOK’d BBQ tri tip sandwich with seasoned fries and an ice cold Coke.

Earthcomb founder Andrew V and his team have removed approximately 65 bags of litter from Cachuma’s dry
lake-bed and shoreline in the last ten years. We have used boats to clear parts of Cachumas
coastline that are otherwise unreachable.
If you would like to join our efforts to keep the beautiful Lake Cachuma clear of litter, we arrange
several pick ups in the dry months of June, July and August. Feel free to inquire: (contact@earthcomb.org),
or sign up to help at: (link to “Donate Time Or Join Our Team”)
UPDATE: Andrew here. I am planning a pickup at Lake Cachuma this Monday, July 5th 2021. Respond to this comment for more information, or wait until we add it to our statistics page.
